Review of Erykah Badu's Concert

I finally found something to wear, cute, not too much and I was ready (thanx to lil cuzzo for the pic). Let me just say, I left early so I wouldn't be caught in the rush hour traffic of D.C, but as you know... I was!!!

Anyways I was close to just say'n F it because I got an "instant attiude" cause I couldn't find Constitution Hall (no address listed), but I remembered this is my favorite artist. I asked for directions from a taxi driver, looked to my left and right and saw people who looked like "concert goers" so I followed suit!!!

I finally arrived to the building after $18 in parking fees and two blocks of walking in 3 inch stilletos, to find out NO CAMERAS allowed. I did like every other person... rearrange my bag and walk right in. This place was crowded, everyone and their momma was there... literally.

I found my seat, the roots were already on stage (I'm late now) and I chilled and watched their show for about 40 mins. I have a newfound respect for the roots, they were on point!!! I met two cool older sisters who were psyched that I was at a concert alone and after about an hour and 10 minutes...

The lights dimmed and 5 sistahs with afro puffs walked out and moved to the beat of Amerykahn Promise, the crowd was screaming ERYKAH, I think we were expecting her to follow with her fro. One of the backup singers looked just like Erykah (sisters, maybe?). Out walked Ms. Badu and the crowd went crazy!!! She poured herself a drink and then drank it, then she pressed this little synthesizer and the show began.

You can tell that this is an artist that enjoys what she does, she was sashaying, beating on drums, the whole concert was very interactive!!! She moved on to tell us she had been still for a while and said the infamous line "I'm an artist and I'm sensitive about my shit", this led us
into her next song Me.

I actually can't remember all of the songs but  I believe she performed the first seven songs off of New Amerykah. However she did perform a few songs from her past cd's On and On, Other Side of the game, Orange Moon, Danger, and the last song she performed was Times a Wastin'. The crowd wasn't ready for her to leave because I'm sure everyone was screaming or thinking Tyrone, but she didn't deliver... oh well.  Let me just say, I did't realize the range of her voice, she was hittin high notes all over the place!!!

Erykah enlightened us on two things, Fear and Consumption, chick is real political. She was like they scare us (The Man) and we think we have to go out and buy things to be happy. The only thing I regret about this concert is I didn't jump on the tickets ASAP, I mean this concert was front row and backstage worthy. If you still have a chance please SUPPORT, real music with substance and not just a beat!!! F.Y.I- If you don't have the new c.d, you'll definitely need it  to sing-along!!!

Check out Erykah Badu here and here!!!

I didn't leave the show empty-handed, I got me a souvenir

Could This Be The Worse Movie Ever?

So I had the pleasure of spending a boring Saturday watching How She Moves. Let's just say I am so happy I didn't waste my $9.00 by seeing this at the movies. After 20 minutes I didn't know if the chic was in high school or what... the movie was just scattered!!! As a former stepper, I didn't feel like this was true stepping just a Bootleg version. I was also hesitant to see Stomp The Yard because I think the media capitalizes off of Black America enough, then off of my beloved HBCU's... that's another realm. Take our uniqueness and creativity, but not support our educational endeavors (okay off subject and on my soapbox). But Stomp The Yard was actually good, The Way She Moves is a complete mockery of it. What was up with MTV, this movie is as low budget as it gets. The music is way louder than the the actors speaking!!! I'll say it for everyone... NO More Dance Movies PLEASE!!!

To think, I'm still watching it...

Let's all say together... HATED IT!!!

I Got Tagged... go me, go me!!!

So my FIRST tag and I'm sooo excited!!!

The rules are as follows

* link to the person that tagged you : Miss B

* post the rules on your blog

* share six non-important things/habits/quirks about yourself

* tag six random people at the end of your post by linking to their blogs

* let each random person know that they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog

1. I hate when people rub their toes/feet together and it makes that weird "scratchy" sound. My Grandma constantly does this and it irks the hell out of me!!!

2. I have a girl crush on Rihanna. Any magazine or t.v show I'm there watching. And when I get pissed I just turn on "Breaking Dishes" to rock out or when I KNOW I'M LOOKING HOTT I have to put "Lemme Get That" on!!! I even got my bob (which grew out soo quick) because of her. F.Y.I- Did you know Rihanna has a star tattooed on the inside of her left ear?

3. I'm addicted to MarioKart on Wii. I am determined to unlock more courses. I have NEVER been addicted to any other of my wii games before!!!

4.  I love, love, love purses/handbags/purses/computer bags/doggie bags... no matter the type, expensive, cheap as long as they're cute I LOVE them all. I have  trunks, suitcases, and weekenders  full of bags on the inside.  You can almost find a purse somewhere in all of my rooms (except the bathroom). My LOVE for purses stem from my momma keeping a new Dooney!!! B.T.W that's my favorite purse... my leather so soft!!!

5. I have a big problem remembering birthdays... I hate to admit it, I can't keep up with none. I try and then always have to resort to "What day is it gonna be on this year" so I can look it up LOL!!!

6. Hello Kitty is my favorite Sanrio character. I can't wait to go back to Ga. and redeem my freebies from all of my purchases (have to use the same store).

So the bloggers I'm tagging are me,myself an eye, black pearls, thorpesthoughts.... mostly everyone else I thought to tag had been tagged    ***SORRY***

That 70s Show... featuring ME!!!

I'm up at 3 in the morning watching Claudine from my favorite decade... The 70s!!! Everyone who knows me knows how much I LOVE the 70s.

                                                                Why I LOVE the 70s?

Fashion- The 70s is the era that has us on a fashion frenzy. Psychedelic patterns, bell bottoms, platforms, dashikis, and sooo much more.

Cars- Cars were built to last and were super spacious. I can not resist an 'ole school car.

Culture- It just seemed like everyone was doing their own thing or doing it together and getting along. Everyone had a good time with what they had, no matter how poor you were. Some of the coolest slang was birthed during this era... Jive Turkey, Sucka, and Groovy. Pimps... need I say more!!!

Music- You had Solid Gold Classics, Woodstock, and Disco... just music that made you feel good (baby making)!!!

Movies- The Mac, Claudine, Cooley High, Sugar Hill, Superfly, Dolemite... too many to name!!!

Goodtimes- You all should know this is my ish!!! I still long to be Thelma or at least shop in her closet. She was one poor fly chic. F.Y.I- Ester Rolle fought for there to be a live-in father included.

The Afro- Everyone had one... need I say more!!!

That's me looking all 70 ish, reminiscent of Thelma Evans  LOL (excuse the boxes I just moved in). What is/was your favorite decade? Did I forget something from the era? I know, drugs... not into that though LOL (it existed in every decade).

Here's My Addiction...

                 MAGAZINES

The other day I was talking to a friend and he asked if I liked magazines (you know, one of those getting-to-know-you type of questions). And I was like I'm totally addicted to them.

I don't know if its the shiny pages, the coupons inside, or just the fact that a new one comes out every month!!! I believe my grandma actually sparked my interest in them as she did her children. Growing up with a teacher in the house, books are everywhere, in my case there were both... many books and many magazines. Even as a child I had had my own personal subscriptions. To this day I still don't know how many magazines my grandma actually gets. It seems like whenever I'm home there's always a new subscription to something different. And because my grandma is sooo cool she even comes up with excuses like "Ya'll like to read that, so I ordered it" (the best).

Back to me and my addiction. Although I grew up around subscriptions, I'm the dumb chic who spends roughly $25 a month on my favorite magazines, that is until my cousin pulled my card (Pam). I know its dumb, but something about seeing them on the shelf/stand makes me just wanna buy them!!! Since my cousin called me out, I now subscribe to Cosmogirl, Seventeen, Lucky, Nylon, and People Style. Yes, I still keep up with my teen magazines (they have all the cool up-to-date clothing sites). On the other hand I still shop off the stand for a few like...

Essence- I make a point to get this at a store it gives me that liberated feeling like... I-Am-A-Black-Woman-And-This-My-Magazine!!!

Glamour- I have no excuse not to subscribe to this one. To me its an all around magazine. Not too much sex, fashion tips, or real life stories... just enough. B.T.W I still had them on my sh*t list for the comment/forum (whatever it was) on afros in the workplace.

Cosmopolitan- I used to be sooo in love with this magazine. Now I realize its just way too many "new" sexual positions included monthly. I think this is the in between magazine... Not a Girl Not quite a Woman (you need that in college).

Marie Claire- I only buy this when I've pretty much bought everything else. Its a bit boring to me... just Blah!!!

Fitness- O.K I'll be real I usually only buy this from the Dollar Tree (yes they sell it there) there are really cute topics and important health information.

Elle- I know people swear by this one, but I buy it sparingly. Truly I can't afford nothing in there... at least not the stuff I want (my eye's go to the most expensive things... always... got it from my mama... good taste).

Jet- The size of this speaks for itself, just like a "minute man" and its over!!! I only pick this one up if there's someone I really like on the cover and I usually read it in the... you-know-where!!!

Upscale- I get this every-now-and-then, however it usually has interesting topics.

Today's Black Woman- I almost hate this magazine. Why? It is forever reporting about "cheating, finding a good man". It is the bible for... who's doing it, how to do it, and how to find out if and why they're doing it and etc. I just don't think it totally represents "Me today, as a Black Woman" in every aspect. I ONLY get it if someone I like is on the cover.

The funny thing is... I'm so addicted that my cousin gets one of the magazines I buy off the stand and I still HAVE to buy it for myself. Its like I'm a fein and I have to get my fix monthly. I know I'm not the only one addicted to magazines... Which are your favorites and least favorites. Also, if you know of any other good ones I didn't mention let me know.

Which Category do you belong to

I checked the book above out from the library about two months ago it started out as an interesting read but I got a bit bored. I say bored because it didn't fully capture my attention, although their were interesting points. The book is about a single guy looking for love, while categorizing women in 6 different categories which is supposed to be 'the real guyz guide' numbered 1-6. I found the categories interesting because it was from a males' perspective. So I decided to put it out there for you/us women to see which one we fall into. All of the categories  are strictly the work of Van Whitfield.

Pain Personified- "I just got out of a really bad relationship"motto of a 1
1s are 1s for a reason. They didn't start dating to become 1s and if they had a choice they definitely wouldn't be 1s. You'll find 1s at church throughout the week. They'll tell you they're celibate. But many 1s choose celibacy and the church because they need a supportive environment to help them deal with the pain. 1s also need time to develop retaliatory measures against the guy who goofed (with God's blessings of course). Some man, somewhere made a 1 a 1. And because of that man, the 1 you may be dating may not work out. To her, you are that same no good guy waiting to happen all over again.

Inside the mind of a player-"I'm not interested in a relationship- I just have friends" motto of a 2
What's a 2 looking for if she's not interested in a relationship? Simple question, simple answer. Control. Some women just plain don't want a relationship which is just like some men who refuse to commit. Somehow it works if the involved parties accept it. But a true 2 is a slick 2. And a slick 2 is one who's figured how to run the same scam on men that men have run on women for years. 2s don't believe in staying home. They have to be out. They insist on doing everything with their girlfriends or with some mysterious "friend". Unfortunately, 2s play by their own rules, so they sometimes treat men worse than men treat women. It's damn near impossible to figure out 2s. 2s are too busy, too self-absorbed, and too much of a hassel to get involved with.

A moment with a gold digger-"What is it you said you do for a living" motto of a 3
3s don't have to have that sassy, playful air. You give it to them. They don't have to have common sense. You give them that as well. 3s don't even need bank, because unlike fine babes you don't necessarily mind spending your cash on, you will gladly give it to a 3. And that's the fundamental problem with 3s. They look so f-ing good that you just want to give them stuff. 3s are not always the 'bimbos' everyone makes them out to be. They've figured out exactly what it takes to please the level of guys they deal with (and they give it to them big time). But don't count on them giving too much to you. You'll be too busy giving way too much to them. If you must date a 3 (or if you're lucky enough to date one), be aware that if you're not a major player with major power or influence, you'll be in for major disappointment if you think she's the
'real thing". Not that 3s can't be the real thing. They can and often are for the right price.

The skinny on male bashers-"Men are dogs" motto of a 4
When a babe tires of being a 1 and decides she's ready to date again, the first stop on the road to recovery is usually an ungratifying stay in 4 world. 4s believe men stink for one very basic reason. They're men. 4s have been there, done it, and seen it all when it comes to guys. That's how 4s became 4s. Much like 1s, 4s certainly didn't start dating to become 4s, but you can bet that some screwed -up guy had a hand in driving them to their unfortunate state of mind. 4s are a mess. But if you remember that some guy had a hand in creating the mess they've become, you may actually be of some long-term help. Just be prepared to be ultra patient, incredibly understanding, supersensitive, and as open as a 24-hour-a-day 7-Eleven.

A moment with the marrying one- "My biological clock is ticking-I need a husband" motto of a 5
5s are so amazing because they have the whole marriage thing down to a specific (and well practiced) science. They always wait to hit you with the move when you're most vulnerable. But it's not just about the perfectly timed questions with 5s. It's part of the process, and it's a process that works.  If a decides he really wants you, make it a point to protect yourself (literally). 5s still believe they can hook you with a a baby.

You too can hit the jackpot- "I'm single, I'm available and Yes, I'm interested" motto of a 6
There's not a whole lot to say about 6s, because when a woman is right she's just plain right. 6s don't play games. They don't have to. They tell you they're interested because they are, and they sense you are as well. They don't manipulate, because they know you'll do nearly anything for them (just as they would do for you). 6s don't listen to you piss and moan about your rotten day and your know-it-all boss. They hear you out and they understand. They motivate you to succeed at whatever your highest level may be. 6s will bring out the best in you, and you in them. 6s don't waste time with stale, meaningless arguments. They discuss relevant problems, and together you find solutions. 6s understand that guys want to be respected, that they want to be dealt with honestly and fairly, and that men want to be loved as much as women do. Lots of women understand hat. 6s do something about it. 6s aren't perfect. Nobody is. But love with a 6 is as close to perfection as perfection can get. Growing and togetherness are important to 6s.

My family and I felt compelled to add another number.

I have nothing to offer, I have no class, morals, or standards- "I'll do anything for a man" motto of a .5
This category stands for the women that will go out of way to get and try to keep a man (we all know one). And because of this she doesn't deserve a whole number just a decimal place.

Women- Which category do you fall in? Which category would your girls classify you as?

Males- What type of woman do you find are more attracted to you and what are you most attracted to? Also, which type of woman is a turnoff for you?

Yes, I have been MIA

I've been on hiatus once again, but I'm back and I really missed you all!!! Once again school work and my new -about to be- old job has been pimping me for my time. My  new-about to be- old job sent me to Plilladelphia last week for a week of training, and you know I can't turn down a free trip!!! A college friend of mine lives there and we hit the town every night. It's always good to know people in the area when you're traveling so you can do as the locals do!!! Shout out to Brooke and baby 'face' for showing me around!!!

I had a ball at this ghetto bar doing Karaoke. I WAS doing my thing, a local even asked me to sing again to get the chic to my left off the mic. The chic in the back was like "I sound bad, I don't know what's going on with my voice, you know Kia put it down every Wednesday"...(insert side eye) LOL.

After Philly, I had to leave early Sat. morning and head to the 'A'!!! It was my line sisters' birthday and she had a pole party. Thanks to riding stand by I got in at the tail end of the party but I LOVED seeing my girls and being in the Dirty!!! You know I had to hit the club, I partied in the underground at some lil ghetto spot. My weekend was sooo fun and tiresome, I didn't even sleep it was a quick turn around trip, after the club I drove back to the airport to head back to the DMV. No worries though I will be back in Ga. for 5 days next month, I can't wait!!!

Me and my Ls's chilling before the club... what a night. Some guy below who knew ALL the dances!!! How I LOVE the 'A'!!!
