I'll Be Missing You

Last night (I should say this morning around 1ish) I was very emotional. I felt like I was missing something, not sure if it was my moma but just missing something. Fast forward to later on today and I realized (thanks to cuzzo's FB) that today is the 6 year anniversary of my Granddaddy's death. I'm not sure if I've ever spoke about this on my blog or not but #Godeeper. When my Granddaddy passed it was a Tuesday morning, I was away in college so I forgot who called to tell me, but that was the day when I lost a piece of me. I actually knew a couple of weeks that he was going to pass but I just didn't know when. I remember being at home the Sunday prior to his death and even though he wasn't feeling well he was still trying to take care of me. He had already given me gas money but he called me again to give me some extra money. As I think about my grandaddy I see so many characteristics of him that I'd like my future husband to have:

* Honest
* Hardworking
* Family oriented
* God-fearing
* Loving
* Giving
* A real man
* Fair

I learned sooo much on how a woman should be treated through his grandaddy's actions as well as his response to my boyfriends. Although I wasn't my grandaddy's biological child I always knew I had a special place in his heart. He even told my line sister that I was his granddaughter, but he thought of me as his child. Every time I think of that story I get super emotional.

I'll be the first to tell you that after my grandaddy passed I was an emotional wreck. The following weeks were more than enough proof that I needed grief counseling (still do). It was the first death in  my immediate family that I'd encountered as an adult. Devastated doesn't come close to the overwhelming amount of emotions I experienced. I was trying my best to hold it together for everyone else, all along, losing it on the inside. To this day I have trouble being at my house (grandparents house) alone and I definitely can't stay overnight by myself.

Sometimes I wish I could go back in time just to have one last day to savor with ALL of my family. I know that I have tangible memories but its #notthesame. Because I LOVE and miss my grandaddy sooo much I've vowed to name my #future son after him.

Happy Grandparent's Day

Well first off Happy Grandparents Day to all of the Grandparents!!! Finally I was able to call my Grandma at 11:15. I never seen someone sooo busy at 71. I mean never at home always at church or someone else's church program. If you've read some of my previous post you know that I was reared by my grandparents. I stayed with my grandparents kindergarten thru 3rd grade and moved back 6th thru college. Long story short I never knew my life was differnt until I got to college and met more people that didn't grow up the way I did. All I know is my grandma was there to take on the motherly role and my grandaddy was there to take on the fatherly role.

I am sooo blessed to have as many experiences with my grandparents AND great-grandparents in life. I have a very soft spot for elderly people because for a while that was all I knew LoL!!! There were four people in my house grandma, grandaddy, great-grandma and me. Sooo many stories and love was shared with me from an early age up until now. My grandfather was a great provider, unselfish, and totally loved his family. Those are qualities that I look for in my future partner. I still remember the lesson he gave me on my ex in high-school, it really made me see who the dummy was LoL!!! My grandmother has an exuberant faith in God that I too hope to acquire one day. I know that she'll have a seat in the Heavenly choir one day LoL!!!

Although my grandfather is no longer here I value the times we shared and hold each and every memory near and dear. I like to think that me and my grandma have a special bond. I'm the first grandchild and I'm actually nick-named after her too. Each morning on my way to work we talk and she fills me in on the latest in C-town or with my family. It's funny how she knows about all the current events in life from sports, rappers, to hairstyles. We had the funniest conversation on quick weaves one day!!!

I hope that everyone who still has a living grandparent has taken the time to say Happy Grandparents Day or at least let them know how much they're appreciated.

Last Week Fun!!!

So I couldn't blog as soon as I wanted because I left my computer charger in Ga., and was not about to spend $79.99 to get another one. It was my Grandma's 50th class reunion that's why I took the trip and paid no attention that it was a Holiday weekend because Memorial Day isn't a holiday that sticks as well as birthdays LOL!!! Anyways I had sooo much fun with my Grandma and the senior citizens. The way her Alma Mater does reunions is to celebrate all the years that ended with 8,9, etc. a joint celebration. The event kicked off with a march from the class of 2008, followed by the class of '48, '58, '68, and so forth. My Grandma gave the invocation and I believe she forgot she was in a school and took us straight to church!!! The reunion address was so inspirational, I felt like I was graduating!!! The speakers message was:

 "3 F's and an A"
1. Face your Fears
2. Forget your Failures
3. Fix your Focus
A- in all your ways acknowledge him and  he shall direct thy path

This milestone for my Grandma was especially intriguing to me because 50 additional years of being alive and maintaining an active lifestyle in the community is something I would like to emulate, and I'm happy I witnessed it first hand. The event was also intriguing because this particular school was the only  school blacks could attend back in the day, I was saddened by the poor turnout from the class of '98. So much history and knowledge in one room. A school built on the foundation of educating blacks to become a pillar in the community and society as a whole. Although this isn't my alma mater (actually our rival) I would like to salute the Spencer Greenwaves for past, present, and future endeavors in education.

Let's just say the party didn't end there!!! Later on there was a Banquet which highlighted a dance. I was hesitant to commit to it but decided to go all out with my Grandma and happy I did. These Seniors were having a ball and so were we (my cousins and I). I mean the older people new all of the two steps, I couldn't even catch on half of the time. The food and the music were GREAT!!!!

Although I had hella fun with the family and at the class reunion, you know I couldn't visit Ga. and not kick it with my peeps!!! Come on... this ME!!!

So you know I had to make my way to the 'Bany, purposely to see my friends and get a dose of that Down South Ghetto Hustla Music!!! Let's just say that my night was WILD and ended in a good way!!! Below are pics of the friends and I.

P.S- Shout to The Trap and Big Daddies for supplying the most ghetto music in South West Ga.!!
