Interracial Dating and the like....

So one of my coworkers and I had a  conversation on why he doesn't date black women. Actually, it didn't start out like that, it started by me asking if he dated white women. And his reply was yes, and I said, I figured. He got offended but I felt like me saying "I Figured" wasn't an offensive phrase. I said it based on some of the information he told me previously, as well as his attitude. Personally, I respect anyone's choice on that matter, too me he took it a step further when he said "that's why I don't date black women, because of their attitude". Once again, I'm cool with you dating whomever, but to make a statement that you don't date within your own race or that you'd rather not, seems a little suspect to me. One of his claims was that they/we have the "Black Woman's Attitude" (BWA), which includes drama, arguing, and complaining. I explained to him that that's not all black women, and maybe the one's with BWA have it because of the (BMB) the "Black Man Bullshit", we deal with constantly. I do believe that we as black women we are prideful, not arrogant, we would like too compromise and not settle, however we settle for the BMB, hoping to be the strong black woman he needs. I wonder what type of backlash we would receive if we took the same attitude of some black men who prefer to date outside of their race. I believe the days are gone where interracial dating is totally unacceptable, however I find it ignorant to rule out one particular race for whatever reason, especially that of your own.

Black in America

header_woman-1.jpg

Today was the first segment of Black in America, and if you missed it, please stay tuned tomorrow. Today focused on the Black Woman in every aspect. This documentary really made you think as a black person, so I really wonder what was the opinion of other races. There are so many elements that we as black women deal with on a daily basis and to break it down, it really shows our strength and tenacity.

Another particular feature that stood out to me was the tracing of our roots. So many of us are off springs of slave masters and we don't even know it. It stood out to me because as a middle school student one of my assignments was to trace back my roots. The furthest I got was my Great-Grandfathers father was a white man and his mother was a black woman. In the area where I grew up there are caucasian people that share the same last name as I, and I'm sure there is a connection somewhere along the line. Tracing and knowing my roots is something that I find very interesting and may dig a little deeper because it opens up so many doors in the future just by knowing. You really wouldn't want to marry your cousin, would you LOL!!! As a black person I am sometime in awe of other races who have so much knowledge on their family history as well as culture. I think this is one area where the black community is lacking because of the "unspoken or unknown" tales of our families past as well as heritage. Our ancestors were taken from an area that was deeply rooted in heritage, and because of that I believe there is some sort of disconnect  with us blacks that were born here in America. We classify ourselves as blacks and sometimes African Americans but not really taking the "african" piece into consideration, hence, disconnect from our heritage and true blood line.

I think that this documentary serves as a milestone in a pivotal time in black america. I hope that tomorrow is just as informative and interesting as today.

What are your opinions of the show if you watched it? What stood out the most? Can you relate to the areas that the documentary focused on?

Who Watched The BET Awards???

At first I wasn't going to watch the BET awards because D.L Hughley was hosting and he is sooo not funny to me, luckily he isn't getting that much time (yea-ah). So below is my minute by minute review if ya missed it.

"Mr. Grown Man" himself, Usher  kicked the show off and it was a pretty good performance, I'm sure more will follow and the intensity and hype level will increase!!!

Young Jeezy and Kanye West took the stage and was so-so. Tip to Mr. West: Let T-Pain do T-Pain... PLEASE, that computer-love-techno-synthesis was sooo...OFF!!!

Now you all know it made my day to see my #1 hood family Neffie and Frankie on the award show... HOLLA!!! Neffie's dress was hawt yet a bit too small!!! Now ya'll know I love me some Keyshia Cole, but she is sooo not a live singer, I mean off pitch, out of tune, and excedera excedera. It was very entertaining to see Lil Kim pop out though!!!

Is Neo ever gonna stop imitating MJ? However, his "Stomp The Yard/"Diamond" from player's Club" routine was hawt, he even included the church mimers!!! I may break down and buy his cd.

I absolutely LOVED Ashanti's dress... too cute!!!

Alicia Keyes did her THANG!!! I may just become a fan after all, I think I'm the only one that's not a fan. No lie, A. Keyes does put on a damn good live performance, I can't even hate!!! Then she always pays respect to those that paved the way, SWV, EnVogue, and TLC.

When the BIGGEST BOSS that I seen thus far (ROSS) stepped on stage, it was all over for ya girl!!! I love me some Ross, that's one big dude that can get it (male boobs, stomach and all)!!! The SOUTH totally REPRESENTED, Big Boi, OMG!!! I am sooo missing Ga. and the panhandle right now, then popped out Luda... BET is doing it BIG tonight!!! Can you feel the happiness in my keystrokes!!!

IS HIP-HOP DEAD? I THINK NOT!!!

BET never ceases to amaze me... after all of the foul and fornicative (is that a word) language/sexy dance moves, who do you bring out next? Marvin Sapp, of course, complete with a choir and a choir director that mirrored an angel. What would have really took the cake, is if Lil Weezy would have popped out with... the remix baby (LOL, forgive me)!!!  Marvin Sapp even included a picture of our future President and First Lady. This is why I love BLACK people, we can always stop and give an intermission for Jesus!!! Was it me, or did you also see that Marvin Sapp was iced out?

My CRUSH Chris Brown, along with Ciara really did their thang on the dancing tip, Ciara was putting it on him. Mtv's ANBDT Contestants have to really step their game up, to get on "they" level!!!

OMG, I didn't know there was an "Rev. Al Green St.", imagine giving that as your address, things that make you go... hmmmnn!!! I am sooo loving the Al Green portion, its making me wanna throw on all white, step in the name of love, and get my Saturday morning clean up on!!! Wow, Anthony Hamilton looked like he smelled good, he even had the open shirt minus the pubic chest hair, kudos. Then Maxwell walked up... slowly, looking and sounding good, please give us another album...soon!!! Damn, he even did a MJ spin and crotch grab, Maxwell is really putting himself back in the game with this performance!!! Don't you think Cedrick the Entertainer could be a descendent of Al Green? Even the rappers were up grooving with Al Green, he just took us from Hoppo's jook joint back to church, the doors are now open, give me your hand and the Lawd your heart!!!

Is that a "leather in the summertime suit" that Terrance is wearing? Three words WTF!!!

Is that Ms. Cita on stage with Weezy (not a real fan if you don't know Ms. Cita)? I told you Lil Wayne should have been on the Never Would Have Made It remix, because "without God we are nothing"!!!

Even my girl crush Rhianna sounded better than Keyshia Cole and we all know the deal on that. Can you believe I don't have the re-released album, I definitely have to go get that because I did bootleg the first one... I know that's bad, but I no longer bootleg since I got my Mac (scared im'ma get caught).

Now I also LOVE me some Nelly, but this Stepped on my J's song should have been an Soulja Boy original, so the kids could have supa man'd that ooohhh, because right now its pure fuckery!!!

Lauren Londen will forever be NuNu to me, but her weave was on point!!! BTW, have you ever had Ciroc (liquid crack as my cousin would say), its smooth and will sneak up on ya?

I think T-Pain should write a series of children books because he is really a character, no really, he can transform into any character... literally!!! WOW T-Pain just transformed into T-Wayne...did you see it???

Ooooh I just got a glimpse of Tyrese, um um um!!!

I really wanna go on record saying that was one of the BEST BET Award Shows I've seen in a very long time, I mean very long time!!!

Frustration Friday

So I haven't posted in a while because I've had sooo much frustration built up. I did manage to change my profile song to That Hump by Badu, because it describes exactly how I feel right now. Funny thing is, if I could get over that hump,  I'm sure another one would present itself in my life. But I guess humps and frustrations are a daily presence in our lives to serve as a reminder of how much we've grown, changed, and adapted to situations in our lives. So I decided to take this post and pour all of my frustration into it.

First and foremost the "JOB" situation has had my mind on lock down. Thing is, I had an interview yesterday and as soon as I got home they called with an offer, so I should be happy right? Well the job isn't all that, but I REFUSE to pay rent out of my dwindling savings. The things about jobs and the interview process is, it sucks!!! Its sucks that I applied for sooo many jobs and have just recently got call backs from companies, case in point, after I accepted the job someone else calls me today for a phone interview and to inquire about a time I can come in for a face to face interview. I guess it would help if I new exactly what I wanted to do in life. My dream job would include shopping for others and traveling all around doing it. As far as my frustration goes, is the interview process. You interview, do well, and get invited for a second interview, do well there, and... never hear back from the company. That really aggravates me because I've been on two specific interviews and also had second interviews as well, and during the interview I ASKED, will I hear back from you all whether positive or negative, here it is 4 weeks later no call, rejection letter, or anything.  I also sent a follow up letter and called.

My second frustration is location. I absolutely love my neighborhood (Wisteria Lane) but if I could move it to a more central location where there are bars, more shopping areas, BLACK people, a church I could grow in, a Dominican shop, and, did I mention BLACK people, I would be a lot happier!!!

Third, I miss my friends. Although I don't call and talk to them frequently I miss the hell out of all of them and value the short periods of time we spend together ( I know they ain't reading). I'm a people person, so I meet people all the time, but because I value friendship, I hold certain qualities very, very high. I'll have to do a post soon on friendship, well, "friends/acquaintances" I've had since being here.

Fourth, is the dating scene, which ties back into LOCATION!!! It seems like most of the black guys I see always have white women, and the one's I see without them always have something white... a cigarette hanging out their mouth or in their hands!!! Not that I'm desperate to date, because I love doing me, but I'd rather be doing... well you get what I'm saying (Grandma if you're reading this, disregard that statement and don't print out this post for your friends).

Fifth, what is going on with the order of A Different World, some nights its going in order and other nights you can tell an episode was skipped. I'm tuned in as if  this is a newly scheduled broadcast, when the order is skipped or BET chooses not to play an episode; I am at the highest level of pisstivity, since there are no reality shows to keep my attention.

Last of my frustrations, are the directions I want my blog to go in. I know I haven't posted in a while, but I have been stalking everyone else's blog,  even though I only commented a few times. Its quite evident that  a few bloggers are shutting down their blogs or making it private, which saddens me because I really enjoy stalking some of you. Over my uneventful days, the idea of censorship has come up. My blog is open, and most of my friends and families read, but I think I've been censoring my my thoughts as well as my post content. As I look over my past post, I think some of you may know me, but mainly the one's that knew me before. I think that I've been a bit "surface level", and would like you to know ME and all the simple complexities of my world. So from now on, I'm gonna post exactly what's on my mind (that means I'll learn how to mobile blog... FINALLY).

While its on my mind, I want to put a couple of things on "The F-It" list. The F-It list is a list of things or people I can take off my mind and say F-It to!!!

F-It List

1. Mr. Y- I released you and I allowed you to pass through only to make me realize, a leopard doesn't change it's spots!!!

Trust me this list will grow rapidly, before you know it.

Totally, Me!!!

What Kristin Means
You are a seeker of knowledge, and you have learned many things in your life.
You are also a keeper of knowledge - meaning you don't spill secrets or spread gossip.
People sometimes think you're snobby or aloof, but you're just too deep in thought to pay attention to them.

You are wild, crazy, and a huge rebel. You're always up to something.
You have a ton of energy, and most people can't handle you. You're very intense.
You definitely are a handful, and you're likely to get in trouble. But your kind of trouble is a lot of fun.

You tend to be pretty tightly wound. It's easy to get you excited... which can be a good or bad thing.
You have a lot of enthusiasm, but it fades rather quickly. You don't stick with any one thing for very long.
You have the drive to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Your biggest problem is making sure you finish the projects you start.

You are the total package - suave, sexy, smart, and strong.
You have the whole world under your spell, and you can influence almost everyone you know.
You don't always resist your urges to crush the weak. Just remember, they don't have as much going for them as you do.

You are a seeker. You often find yourself restless - and you have a lot of questions about life.
You tend to travel often, to fairly random locations. You're most comfortable when you're far away from home.
You are quite passionate and easily tempted. Your impulses sometimes get you into trouble.

You are very intuitive and wise. You understand the world better than most people.
You also have a very active imagination. You often get carried away with your thoughts.
You are prone to a little paranoia and jealousy. You sometimes go overboard in interpreting signals.

So I got this post from Eb (thanx), I haven't posted lately because sooo much is on my mind and I'm preoccupied with... ME!!! I promise a post will be coming as soon as I clear my mind!!!

Last Week Fun!!!

So I couldn't blog as soon as I wanted because I left my computer charger in Ga., and was not about to spend $79.99 to get another one. It was my Grandma's 50th class reunion that's why I took the trip and paid no attention that it was a Holiday weekend because Memorial Day isn't a holiday that sticks as well as birthdays LOL!!! Anyways I had sooo much fun with my Grandma and the senior citizens. The way her Alma Mater does reunions is to celebrate all the years that ended with 8,9, etc. a joint celebration. The event kicked off with a march from the class of 2008, followed by the class of '48, '58, '68, and so forth. My Grandma gave the invocation and I believe she forgot she was in a school and took us straight to church!!! The reunion address was so inspirational, I felt like I was graduating!!! The speakers message was:

 "3 F's and an A"
1. Face your Fears
2. Forget your Failures
3. Fix your Focus
A- in all your ways acknowledge him and  he shall direct thy path

This milestone for my Grandma was especially intriguing to me because 50 additional years of being alive and maintaining an active lifestyle in the community is something I would like to emulate, and I'm happy I witnessed it first hand. The event was also intriguing because this particular school was the only  school blacks could attend back in the day, I was saddened by the poor turnout from the class of '98. So much history and knowledge in one room. A school built on the foundation of educating blacks to become a pillar in the community and society as a whole. Although this isn't my alma mater (actually our rival) I would like to salute the Spencer Greenwaves for past, present, and future endeavors in education.

Let's just say the party didn't end there!!! Later on there was a Banquet which highlighted a dance. I was hesitant to commit to it but decided to go all out with my Grandma and happy I did. These Seniors were having a ball and so were we (my cousins and I). I mean the older people new all of the two steps, I couldn't even catch on half of the time. The food and the music were GREAT!!!!

Photo shoot in Grandma's walkway (yep I'm a product of the Hood)

Although I had hella fun with the family and at the class reunion, you know I couldn't visit Ga. and not kick it with my peeps!!! Come on... this ME!!!

So you know I had to make my way to the 'Bany, purposely to see my friends and get a dose of that Down South Ghetto Hustla Music!!! Let's just say that my night was WILD and ended in a good way!!! Below are pics of the friends and I.

P.S- Shout to The Trap and Big Daddies for supplying the most ghetto music in South West Ga.!!

Line Sisters from the First and Best Sorority

I always have to have a photo shoot... LOL

Friends since Freshman Year 2000

Yep its poppin

Although the night had to end the real fun begin at the after party LOL!!!

Airports, Airlines,...Fuckery!!!

With the increasing rise of gas prices, I think its only fair to say traveling by air is cheaper in most aspects. And because of that, airlines are taking full advantage and upping the bullshit. Where does all of my animosity stem from?
A. Missing my plane to Ga. last Wednesday
B. The inconsistency of services rendered to me ( the customer)
So I missed my plane, ad I'll take the blame for that. But coming from a region where the International airport is the largest establishment of its kind, my expectations are HIGH!!! My logic is, if you're a small airport, open up more, or maybe All of the security checkpoints. This makes sense especially when the line is beginning to curve outside of the sectioned area. Wednesday in Dulles airport, I felt like cattle being herded to its final destination. On top of that I get on the wrong bus/shuttle (yes I too make mistakes), which takes you to the final terminal. I end up at gate 41 and my plane was departing from gate 66 (go figure). This aspect of transportation really aggravates the hell out of me because I'm used to the underground train system in Atl. So I had to head back home and get up at 4 am to catch a standby flight at 6:45am, which was an extra $5 charge along with a strong possibility I would not catch a plane out because everything was booked. I said a quick prayer and after 2 standby passengers, I was the third and final one let on!!!
This takes me to my next level of pisstivity from airlines and carriers... Inconsistency. I attempt to leave (from Dulles) with my largest piece of luggage in my set. everything goes well, meaning no hidden fees or charges. Upon checking my bag in Atl., some guy pulls out his measuring tape (like he was about to size me correctly for a bra) and start measuring the length of my bag. He goes on to say that my luggage is over the height requirements, which will be an extra $29.99, so you know I got an instant attitude, which totally ruins my flight home. I've heard of all of the price changes for additional bags but this height requirement which wasn't required when I left was new to me. Airports and airlines, are nickel and dime'n all across, each week something different!!!
My thing is, if you know people are going to be traveling through your establishment, have newer technology for means of transportation. Airports need to find a way to remain consistent across the board. TSA officers enforce rules differently across airports, based on my traveling experiences.
Do you know of any other businesses where the art of Fuckery reigns supreme?
